We went out into the field and fired off these weapons, putting them through their paces. The amount of knowledge we have about airsoft guns means that this was dreadfully simple. We were able to eliminate the majority of potential guns from our list simply by firing them. As you go through this page, you will find that we have put a lot of focus on to find the best airsoft guns which really do feel like the real thing. If they have been modelled on a real life weapon, then there is a greater chance that it will be included on our list. Why? Because gun manufacturers tend not to want to have shoddy licensed airsoft guns on the market. If something is based off of their design, then you can be sure that it will have been checked over and over again to ensure that it is as close to the real life design as it possibly can be. We will also make sure that you are getting ‘bang for your buck’ when you buy an airsoft gun. This means these guns were rated based upon their accuracy and firing rate. We will even give you a rough idea about the best situations to use each of the airsoft guns on this list. How to choose an airsoft gun We have put together several buying guides on this website already, so we are not going to go into too much depth on this section. However, we do want to give you a quick overview, just to ensure that you know you are getting the right one for you. As you will probably notice; we have split this page down into categories. Often, you may want to have several different guns in your arsenal. You will almost certainly want to have a pistol and one of the others at the absolute minimum (you should never try skirmishing without a pistol!). Your first job will be to choose which gun is right for you. Each of the section is kick-started by a brief overview of the situations where that gun is most appropriate. So, this part should be simple. Airsoft Gun Velocity / Power You will also want to ensure that you choose a gun based on how it fires. This means: Spring-loadedOften the cheapest form of airsoft guns are sprung. With this, you will need to ‘cock’ the gun each time you want to fire a bullet. It is incredibly slow, and often best-suited to the airsoft guns which do not need to be rapidly fired e.g. sniper rifles. GasThis is the most common form of airgun. Rather than a spring forcing the pellet out of the chamber, it will be gas. You will need to purchase gas for your weapon, but the firing rate is going to be so much better than spring loaded airguns. They will also tend to have a bit more power behind them. ElectricIf you want the highest firing rate possible, and we are talking up to one thousand rounds per minute, then AEG airsoft guns are the way to go. There is no fiddly gas to play about with here, although do bear in mind that these air guns are often the most expensive that are available. You will also need to consider the overall velocity, or FPS of the airsoft gun. This is especially important if you are planning to skirmish, because if the velocity is too high, you will not be allowed to take part. However, you do still need a bit of power behind the pellet, otherwise it is pointless firing it. This means that you do not want to go too low in terms of velocity either. If you are skirmishing, then you absolutely need to get your hands on an airsoft pistol. It is these weapons which are going to provide you with the protection that you need if your main weapon is out of action, or you are in an incredibly tight space. For example; if you tend to be using airsoft sniper rifles a lot in skirmish environments, you probably do not want to be using one of those in CQC. You need a pistol. Pistols tend not to hold a lot of ammunition at once, so you probably are not going to want to be using them a lot. It is more for those who need something which they are refilling their other weapon, which will probably take a whole lot longer. Most airsoft pistols on the market are pretty lightweight, so you have no excuse not to be carrying one around with you. KWA NS2 M93R 3-Round Burst GBB Airsoft Pistol What we love about this airsoft pistol is the ability to quickly switch between firing modes. You can have it on semi-auto or in 3-round burst firing modes. However, do bear in mind that this is a pistol, so you probably don’t want to be using the 3-round burst firing mode that often, mostly because you are going to be blowing through your ammo like there is no tomorrow. When we use this, we mostly have it set to semi-auto unless we are in a bit of a pickle. The muzzle velocity is somewhere between the 340 and 350 fps mark, which means it should be fine for the majority of skirmish sessions. The magazine capacity is rather large offering 32 rounds, though you can quickly get through this with burst mode. 2. WG M1911 CO2 Gas Powered Special Combat Airsoft Pistol This isn’t a gun which skimps on the FPS either. In ideal conditions, you should be able to get around 450 FPS from this airsoft pistol. However, do bear in mind that there are some pistol-only skirmishes which will ban airsoft pistols with an FPS this high, particularly if they involve a lot of CQC, so this is something that you are going to need to look into. It is probably one of the coolest looking airguns too, although do remember that this is a cheap item, and that means it is going to feel a little bit ‘plasticy’ if you look too closely. Now we can start talking about Airsoft Rifles, a staple in the world of airsoft. There are so many different options out there on the market, we do encourage you to check out our airsoft assault rifle buying guide, mostly because it is very difficult to narrow this category down to just two. The problem is that each airsoft assault rifle will serve a different purpose. Some are going to be ideal for keeping your distance, while others are designed for close quarters combat. This means that there is no ‘right’ airsoft assault rifle for everybody. However, the two featured in this category are going to be a brilliant place for you to start. KWA Full Metal AKG-74 AK74M GBB Airsoft Rifle For starters, this airsoft rifle has been altered slightly to reduce the amount of recoil. It may not be ideal for those who want the most authentic feel possible, but reduced recoil does mean that you are going to be able to enjoy far more accurate shots. In addition to this, the handle has been modified to make it a little bit easier to switch between firing modes, which results in an all-round ‘better to use’ airsoft rifle. The velocity caps out somewhere around the 380 FPS mark if you are using green gas. Remember; the KWA AKG-74 AK74M boasts a full metal construction too, which means this won’t be breaking in a hurry. 4. Lancer Tactical LT-04B M16 RIS AEG Airsoft Rifle The body of the Lancer Tactical is made from polymer. This helps to keep both the cost and the weight of the airsoft rifle down. However, what you need to remember is that polymer is not going to be as tough as metal, which means that it is going to be a bit more prone to breaking if you do not treat it with the care and attention it deserves. However, at under $100, even if you just got a year’s use out of this budget airsoft rifle, you are going to be laughing. Interestingly, despite the low price, this is an electric airsoft gun, and a pretty decent one at that. It is able to pump out up to 400 FPS, and with a magazine size of 300 rounds, it is going to make the perfect ‘defense’ weapon. It is even an airsoft rifle which has been ‘built for the future’. You can easily upgrade it with the incorporated rail, so if you really feel as if your airsoft hobby is taking off, you can pick up a sight and make this assault rifle even better! Sniper rifles are the perfect companion for those who want to keep their distance. If you want to win an airsoft skirmish, you are going to need to have at least one sniper on your side. The problem is that choosing an airsoft sniper rifle is easier said than done. Most of the options on the market are terrible. G&P M14 Scout/Recon Advanced Airsoft AEG Sniper Rifle The weight really does help, though. Not only will you get a full metal construction which ensures that this airsoft rifle can easily last years, but the weight will ensure the minimum amount of recoil, which guarantees accurate shots from quite a distance away. For an airsoft sniper rifle, the magazine capacity is huge too. It is capable 160 rounds. Although, we have no doubt that you are going to be blasting through this sort of quantity rather quickly, because this sniper actually has a fully automatic mode, something which is incredibly rare to find. With an average FPS of 390, you are sure to be able to find your target no matter how far they are away. 6. UTG 96 Black Airsoft Sniper Rifle This UTG 96 black airsoft rifle has been designed for those who are completely new to sniping. You get everything that you need inside of the box. Nothing extra needs to be bought. It is for those who are working on their aim. The magazine capacity is only 23, which is a huge difference compared to our ‘pro’ rifle, but as a beginner, it is unlikely that you are going to want to be letting off round after round. You need to work on your accuracy first. 23 shots is more than enough to last a decent skirmish session, and you can always bring some extra pellets with you. The maximum FPS of 480 is huge too, although at this sort of velocity, it is going to be quite painful to be hit by one, so you will need to stay at range. If you want to ‘win’ in those, you need something which not only pumps out a decent amount of ammo, but can also do so quickly. CYMA Full Metal M870 3-Round Burst Multi-Shot Shell Airsoft Shotgun We love how fast it is to reload this baby, and the fact that it is an ‘all-metal’ construction means that this is a bit of kit which has been built to last. I think the only major downside to this airsoft shotgun is that it weighs in over 2kg, but even then, that is not a downside. Sure, you are probably not going to be running about with it constantly, but you do want something with a bit of weight to aid with accuracy, and to ensure the shotgun actually survives to the end of the day. 8. BBTac BT-M58A Pump Action Airsoft Shotgun Surprisingly, this shotgun is very, very comfortable to use. It just feels ‘right’ when it is sitting against your shoulders, so if you are going to be doing a lot of aiming during your skirmish battles, then this shotgun may be perfect for a beginner. Some people do report that the pump action is a little bit stiff at first, although this is something which you can expect from cheaper air guns. They are not made with the highest quality parts. 350 FPS is right about par for an airsoft shot gun. So which is the Best Airsoft Gun? Opt for any one of the best airsoft guns on this list, and we promise you that you are not going to be disappointed. However, you must remember that the airsoft world is huge. It can’t really be boiled down to just 2 ‘picks’ per type of air gun. There is so much else that you are going to need to think about.
