History- In 1958, the first ar-15 variant was born bearing the name, simply, Ar-15. although the first design was rejected by the Army, Eugene Stoner did not give up, and in 1963, the Army purchased 85,000 of them, bearing the designation XM16E1. THe gun advanced over the years, and in 1970, 30 round magazines were produced to replace the 20 round ones.
Airsoft- These are the first true "real-caps," the others were nothing but Tokyo Mauri slandered magazines converted to only fire 30 rounds. Here is the guide to make real caps out of standard caps. Click here!
First Impression- Damn! These are LIGHT! I myself used to high caps, it felt very, very, extremely light. I was very disappointed by the weight, but its construction is surprisingly solid. It even has a thingamajig to push to release all the bbs. Now, its performance more than makes up for its weight.
Performance- As soon as I got home from AEX, ($48 for a box of ten) I loaded them up with my newly purchased TM bb loader, (pistol mag style one.) and after a few minuets they were all filled to the brim. Now, I have heard that you are supposed to let the bbs sit in over night to weaken the spring and break it in, but being the impatient person that I am, I slapped in the mag and headed outdoors.(after spraying some lube on top of the mags first, of course) I shot about 10 rounds in semi, and i was very impressed, myself having no experience with lo-caps of any type prior to this, they all feed in extremely smooth, it didn’t skip a shot, even though I was using a m15a4, which these mags are not supposed to be compatible with.(read at end what my gun has in mag well area to possibly make it feed) I then switched to full auto, 15 rounds and 4 dead flowers later, i pulled my finger off the trigger. Not one shot skipped! I then switched back to semi to finish it off, *thwat*, *thwat*, *thwat*, *SLAM*, *thwat*. It only skipped one shot out of 30. By this time I was sold, these would be my primary magazines, my high caps now demoted to "last resort." I then tried three other mags and got the same results, only one skipped shot near the end. I then filled them back up again to let them remain so until morning, which is the recommended thing to do.
In Conclusion-
PROs:
-Solid
-Feeds well
-are very low cost ($48 for a box of ten)
-easy to load
-have bb release switch
CONs:
-very light
-plastic
-some rattling when mags are empty
I would recommend these to anyone who doesn’t have enough money to spend on TM low caps and converting to real caps, but wants the feeding reliability of low caps. In my opinion, these are the best magazine purchases I have ever made.
Extras!
Matanince Guide
1. Use silicone spray often
2. Upon first use, spray silicon oil, and then load with bbs, sit overnight, and use. (Virgo of ASCs advice, I in no way take credit for this)
(note: JazzmanNHS has done none of the above and reports his working as well as mine, so both of the above are strictly optional)
CA m15a4 fittage help
I have heard of countless people who can not get there mags to feed properly into metal bodies, now, I will tell you what i have in my gun that is probably making my star mags feed so well into my metal receiver.
Systema one piece hop-up- Not only does it make your gun more accurate, it raises the bb nipple a tiny bit.
Guarder steel mag catch- I bought this after my last mag catch went ka put (don’t ask, I had to use rubber bands to hold my mags in for a while) It also raises the magazine a little higher in the mag well, complementing the systema hop-up and increasing feed reliability.
