Hi Guys,

I need your help, am a beginner and I have a limited budget I would like to know if this spring gun worth it http://www.swisslink.com/products/airsoft/..._stock-28-1374/ as a beginner I don’t want to spend too much money on a complex gun.

Thanks

Honestly man, probably not. When I was first getting into the sport, I bought an almost identical spring XM177 for about $25, and it was pretty abominable. Cheap, flimsy one-piece plastic body, and all the internals were plastic, including the inner barrel. It shot about twenty feet because it had no hop up, and it broke after a few months of very light use. I didn't really get much out of the thing other than losing twenty bucks and learning that you get what you pay for.

If you want a good beginner spring gun, there's a decent handful of pretty darn good guns within your price range, but you definitely have to choose carefully as there are a lot of crummy spring guns out there. If you don't mind starting with a pistol, the UHC spring pistols are excellent (with the exception of revolvers, which in airsoft pretty much always suck). I've had a UHC 1911 for a couple years, and it's been one of the best $20 I ever spent. Totally durable, reliable, and shoots really nicely. I would definitely recommend that as a first gun. I've also heard a lot of knowledgeable people on this forum recommend the UTG spring MP5 as a good reliable starter. It's about twice as expensive as the UHC 1911, but holds a lot more ammo and would probably treat you better in a skirmish.

There's also a pretty good variety of decent spring shotguns out there in your price range, but nothing I'm experienced enough with to base a recommendation on. Welcome to the forum, look forward to seeing you around.

Harvey pretty much nailed it.

The only spring "rifle" I ever had for $20 was of horrible quality. The barrel was plastic and came in pieces, making it a very inaccurate gun (and in all honesty, if it had a metal inner barrel it probably would have performed okay). The plastic it was made of was very thin, allowing the stock to break off after little use. There was no way to repair it because part after part would keep breaking.

Now, if that same $20 were used to buy a pistol instead, that's a different story. My first spring pistol was a UHC USP. I got it almost 9 years ago and it is still working (it's taken some hits, but it still functions). Because it takes less materials to build a spring pistol than a spring rifle, the materials that are used can be of higher quality. At the lower price range, pistols outperform rifles. Good pistols to look into include most all of the UHC pistol line (notably the USP, M9, and 1911) and some KWC pistols (P226). Any of those will surely outperform and outlast a $20 rifle, and if you eventually wanted to upgrade to a rifle, they could still serve as a sidearm.

If you do consider a rifle (or SMG), some of the good spring ones include the DPMS A-15, the UHC MP5SD3, and the HFC MP5. The A-15 is the best performer out of the group, but the UHC isn't far behind. A-15s used to cost around $70, but a UHC MP5 typically costs around $40. It sounds like a lot of money when you're on a limited budget, but they will last much longer. However on a $20 budget, a spring pistol is the best place to start and you will be happy to not deal with the headaches a $20 rifle will give you.

If you are looking for a good spring sidearm on a cheap budget, I may be able to help you. I know that Walmart usually carries total crap in terms of Airsoft guns, but they sell a Colt Delta Elite pistol that shoots like 315 ft/sec. It is all plastic on the outside but it isn't flimsy plastic, it's very hard and thick. I got a Colt Delta Elite a few years back and I play Airsoft all the time and I am pretty rough on the gun and it still shoots absolutely fantastic- considering the $30 price tag.

I really hope I could help. And by the way, I used a gun similar to the one you were looking at when I was over at a friend's house because my AEG ran out of battery power. IT was absolutely pathetic. I would really recommend you not get a spring powered rifle unless it is a Sniper Rifle. Assault weapons like this really need to be electric or gas.
