Hey guys! My name is Steven and I am 17 years old. I decided to get into airsoft because paintball hurt too much and after a while it gets boring tongue.gif. So I need your guys' help.

Currently I am looking for a good gun to start off with. I have a lot of pistols, and I don''t like them that much. Except for the Desert Eagle! That gun seems to be working great and very affective. But I am trying to get into more machine like guns.

A good gun that I am thinking would be suitable for me is an electric MP5. And trust me, I know what a cheap gun with cheap plastic and cheap everything is, so please don't suggest anything like that! So yeah, an MP5 sounds good because it looks very sturdy, something I can fold up and fit into my backpack, sleek, and fairly affordable.

Please tell me a link for a website where I can purchase I gun like this. I really need a good machine gun like this.

What I am willing to spend is $125 ~ $200. If you know anything that is cheaper, BUT GOOD, then please let me know. Or if you know a better gun that would fit my situation, please let me know in a Private Message or Reply.

Thanks everyone!

Hey Steven and welcome to ASC.

It sounds like you're looking for a decent AEG- and luckily there are quite a few options out there in your price range these days. One thing to know is that an MP5 is simply a model of airsoft gun- it can be made by many different manufacturers and in all levels of quality (and it has been). So something to consider would be the field you will be playing at. Depending on the field type, it may give you a better idea as to what model gun to look for. Typically the MP5 is considered to be a close quarters gun, and although it can be modified to fire reasonably well at longer ranges, other guns suit this role better. Some guns that can fit almost any field type well include the M4, G36, SG551, AK variants, and more.

My best advice would be to start off buying a used Tokyo Marui AEG. Often they can be had for very reasonable prices (well within your price range) and in addition, many come with other things you'll need to play (magazines, battery, etc). I would be hesitant to buy a used gun from a manufacturer other than TM, as TM has the highest quality control in the AEG market. Most TMs are plastic, however they will not break on you as long as you don't abuse them (and by "abuse them" I really mean falling on them, throwing them, hitting against trees, etc). In addition, if you end up deciding that airsoft isn't for you, TMs generally hold their resale value fairly well (you may be able to resell it for a similar price that you bought it for, assuming you buy it used).

If you want to play it safe and avoid any potential problems with a used gun (or if you want a full metal alternative), there are a lot of choices at www.airsofgi.com or www.airsplat.com. JG and DBoys seem to have reasonable reputations these days.

I would suggest to narrow down your search to a few different models made by different manufacturers and post them here. From there you can get more concrete answers about which gun is the best choice for you.

Good luck with your pick.

Okay, thanks for your advice! I called my brother and he said he would sell me his M4A1. He told me there is something wrong with it so Im going to take it into an airsoft store and get it fixed. Something about getting a new plug? I dont know. But I think its a great deal. He told be he bought it for $460 and hes selling it to me for $200.

Its really cool because it has all these upgrades. A scope, flashlight, laser, pretty cool stock. Overall its a nice gun. But, he also said I have to buy a charger or batter I dont know.

Once I get it, ill show you a picture. BECAUSE YOUR MY NEW BEST FRIEND!

It may be cheaper to take a look at the gun, gather some information about the problem, and post it here in our gun tech section. It could end up being a simple fix (new plug could be a couple things, maybe something as simple as changing the connector on the wiring?) that you could probably fix yourself. If it's a more complex fix and you have an airsoft store nearby, it may very well be easier to just bring it in (though you will be charged for labor as well as parts). Hopefully you can get it sorted out though.

$460 sounds like an exaggeration unless that includes the cost of upgrades. Do you know the manufacturer?

Either way, congrats and I look forward to the pictures.

Haha I just called him and he said by "plug" he meant it needs a new charger. But im going to take it into my local airsoft store and get a new one. Once I get it, Ill post the pictures here.

Just letting you know, the Desert Eagle is one of the most uncomfortable and clunky handguns you could ever possible hold. That being said, I own one and while it really doesn't do anything over any other gas pistol besides look really shiny and awesome, it's mainly just a gun for show and plinking in the backyard. It can be used for matches but I'm not really recommending it unless you just want to intimidate the younger players which I enjoy doing often smile.gif

I know the perfect gun for you. This little MP5 has an adjustable stock, a metal gearbox, and more features. Here is a list of features:

- 360 FPS w/ 0.2g BB
- Range: 150ft - 170ft
- Magazine Capacity: 200 Rounds

This awesome gun is called the JG MP5 RAS Electric Rifle. Here is the link to the page so you may purchase this gun:

170ft from a stock JG?

It's true that a stock JG MP5 is a viable option for a starting gun but don't exaggerate it. 170ft is if you are shooting with the wind and counting accuracy as ability to hit a barn. It's not a sniper rifle or DMR, the realistic effective (read: can hit with) range of that gun is maybe 130ft.

BUT that gun isn't designed for range. Listen to Python. If for some reason you decide to nix the used gun idea go with something along the lines of an ECHO-1 or JG. Don't expect it to be the end all be all rifle though, they are called mid grades for a reason.

Personal pick: JG Sig 552. Cheap enough to also buy some accessories but still a great starting gun. Plastic body but the Sig design doesn't really NEED a metal body like an M4/16 model does. I will say the JG mag that will come with the gun is crap, spend another $30 and buy yourself a Marui hicap for it as well. You can find the gun brand new for around $100, probably get a package deal with a battery and charger for something like $130. Don't quote me on the pricing though it's been a LONG time since I looked at any airsoft gun prices.
