i'm gonna get an sl8/9 or g36 kit for my echo1 g36c, and i need a backup gun for close range, and i was thinking about a spring, so what would be the best pair of guns (meaning which g36c conversion kit and what secondary to go with it)?
Comrade_MP
I'd look for something of the Glock variety, but anything else should be fine. TM is supposed to make fine spring guns, but you could settle for something like the KWC spring guns.
Meatball
I have also heard good things about TM spring pistols but have never had the pleasure of having one myself. You may want to just consider getting a gas pistol. Some of the KWC's are pretty low priced and would be a more effective (and fun) sidearm.

I would pick out some guns that you like the look and specs of and then come back here to ask about specifics. There are so many for us to narrow it down for you.
Comrade_MP
Just stay far away from the KWC Caspian 1911. Sure it's cheap, but it sucks so hard. Hardly even functions on green gas, and slightly less terrible on C02 or Propane.

well i lime hk guns and the m15 series, what would be a good choice out of those?
Maverickmonk
for asidearm, get the kwc sigp226, its spring, and when we had a topic "most beat guns" or somthing, it turned out 5 or more of us had sigp226's by kwc that had been to hell and back, somone had one that got frozen to a park bench and still worked, mines 3 years old and has thousands of rounds through it, and works fine, its been dropped, stepped on, it was the first bb gun a small child shot, and i even used it wile practicing gun disarm tecniques(it hit walls and floors lightning fast, but still worked)
Meatball
Sorry I must have misunderstood this topic from the beginning I thought you were looking for a pistol but it appears you are set on getting a rifle?

If this is the case let me first say that it would not be a great backup, it would not be much fun carrying around a rifle as a backup, even if it is a lightweight springer. I am not opposed to having a spring rifle around just for the hell of it however. If you do get a spring rifle as a backup I would get something smaller like an MP5.

Spring rifles? If you want it as a sidearm, I'm with Meatball, just grab a pistol. Carrying a rifle slung across your back is a pain in the ass when you could just strap on a pistol holster. But your exact words were "backup", so I assume you just want it around to use as a primary instead of your electric occasionally, which is a good idea. I do that from time to time.

Well, I know a lot of guys swear by their spring UTG MP5's, though I've never owned one myself (and I know, that's a submachine gun). Tokyo Marui makes some spring rifles that perform just like their AEG's, but are spring operated. Check 'em out: (they're the first 4)

sweet thanks, and i'm considering pistols too, so the earlier posts were helpful, and i already have 2 crappy spring pistols, but it is true that I am mainly looking for a spring rifle as a "backup", just in case i can't or don't have time to charge up an aeg, and my friends only have springs so i wanna be fair.

If you want a springer to use in lieu of an AEG, the Marui spring shotguns are perfect.

You get familiar performance as far as range and power goes, excellent hit potential due to the 3 BB spread, reliability, and the pump action operation means you maintain a significant rate of fire advantage over most other spring weapons.

If the TM's are too expensive, UTG just recently released a M3 shotgun which is a clone of the marui. The materials arent as durable, but from what ive seen and read, the performance is similar, and at only about $70 as opposed to $180 (at least) for a TM shotgun.

Another option might be one of the newer chinese bolt action spring rifles. They dont fare too well as sniping tools, but they are supposedly fairly well built, and may be a good option for a light scout type rifle.
Meatball
I will be getting and reviewing a couple TSD Shotguns that are supposed to be decent. I will keep you updated on whether or not they are a good buy. I feel that they would be perfect for a backup weapon if they perform well.

KWA g17 FTW! best gas gun ive used (but then again ive only shot like 5 or 6). But if you can afford it go for it.
If you really want a spring rifle, the UHC Mp5 SD3 is amazing (for $40) and has lasted me almost 3 years now, and shes still kickin'. Everyone elses suggestions are good too, just thought i'd throw in the UHC.

If it wasn't for the fact that you wan to be "fair" becuase your friends only have spring pistols, then I'd definitely say go for a CO2 powered pistol. I'm a big fan of those, since the CO2 cartridges are really cheap, and you get a LOT of shots out of them too. I'd just say the heck with sticking to what your friends use, and just grab a decent pistol. Of course, that is just me though smile.gif
