MP5 RAS - The Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine guns employ the same delayed blowback operated roller-locked bolt system found in the famous HK G3 Automatic Rifle. Firing from the closed-bolt position during all modes of fire makes MP5 submachine guns extremely accurate and controllable.

Over 120 variants of the HK MP5 submachine gun are available to address the widest range of tactical requirements. The Heckler & Koch MP5 RAS provides the best modular design. It's specifically designed for CQB (Close Quarters Combat) equipped with a Vertical Foregrip, Prosight II Aimpoint Red Dot Scope with three settings, and folding stock that enables it to be easily used in squad cars. RAS is essentially a rail system that is designed to be further upgraded and meet mission requirements; mounts can be added for laser attachments, flashlight, and even a grenade launcher. The MP5K-RAS is the newest member of the famed MP5 family. This particular version is currently used by the swat division of Los Angeles Police Department.

-Comfort/Mobility

The combination of the vertical foregrip, and folding stock makes it especially comfortable in CQB. It is lightweight and due to its compactness ensures it easy to transport and carry. The addition of the red dot scope along with comfort generates accurate shots and faster aiming and discharging of the gun. Among the many features one that stands out is the navy selective firing system that permits the user to easily change firing rates.



-Reliability/Performance

After prolong use of this weapon it will jam, use Silicon oil or Teflon oil to lubricate the barrel, and remember to use premium .20gram rounds. The weapon will be more than enough stocked for CQB pushing 260-280 fps. One problem however as do most AEGs eventually encounter is firing from full to semi-automatic, burst firing jams the barrel and the magazine will still hold rounds. Yet even with these draw backs the accuracy and the precision is astonishing. The grouping is less than 1 inch apart at 25 yards (indoors). With the hop-up the system can be calibrated for medium to long range kills.



-Realism

As do with all Tokyo Marui AEGs they are very realistic. The MP5RAS copies the exact same body as the MP5, uses the same folding stock on the MP5K-PDW, and the navy selective firing system adds to the feel. The addition of the cocking handle although has no purpose other than to add to realism is a plus other than to cock it back and hit it with the back of your hand and say “lock and load.”



-Downsides

The gun parts are plastic, some metal but this may become a problem after prolong use of it in skirmishes. The folding stock is hollow yet sturdy, but it also may wear down after usage. The red-dot scope is unfortunately made of plastic and is easy to break. The grip guards are plastic as well, and the gun it self is not enough for woodland games. The standard clip is not enough that operating in full-auto gives a burst of 5 seconds. The folding stock also limits the magazine capacity of a double clip.



-Upgrade/Mods

The advantage however is the gun is very upgradable, with the RIS system one can attach many accessories ranging from flashlights to lasers. Recommendation is to buy a plastic shield that mounts on the rail system to protect the red dot scope. After market grips and to switch to a real steel stock will over come the plastic/duration problems. To resolve the woodland combat problems, upgrade the motor and spring, and also acquire the 1,000-drum magazine.



-Cost vs. Utility

Gun is priced right, with the rail system and red-dot scope makes it around the price range of 379-400 USD. It is the weapon of choice for further upgrades, yet what is stock is impressive with performance, comfort, and accuracy.



-Comparison to the TM M4 RIS

The M4 RIS is a formidable brother to the MP5 RAS. Its complete with the same rail system but the MP5 RAS already comes with a red-dot scope that the M4 lacks. Cost wise the MP5RAS is more bang for the buck, but the M4 is still a versatile weapon for CQB and long-range engagements. But by far the MP5 RAS is worth more and the barrel wobble consistent with all M16/M4 series is not seen. The MP5 is smaller and more lightweight yet carries the same stopping power as the M4 RIS. But do the cost analysis between upgrading the MP5 RAS and the M4 RIS of buying a red-scope, flashlights, mounts, and will lead you to determine that the MP5 RAS is the better deal.



-Conclusion

-Notes: The mod I recommend are the following 1. 1,000 DRUM, 2. Upgrade the motor and spring, 3. Buy LR44 batteries for the red-dot scope, 4. depending on your style the vertical foregrip maybe uncomfortable for long range engagements so buy another handing guard. 5. Buy an additional silencer for the MP5 RAS, and 6. Battery mod to allow better ROF.
