I had owned a TM Mk23 Springer for sometime, and my parents had finally accepted my interest in firearm replicas, so on my B-day I ordered a Famas SV, 2 clips, discharger, and bag of .2 excel BBs all from wargamers club. After about 2 days, I was walking home from school with someone talking about how cool airsoft is and that I better get my Famas. We part ways, and I open the door to my house and see a big cardboard box...with pampered chief written on the side. To my dismay, I remembered my mom left it there and that I was going to move it the day earlier because it was ruining my dreams. Regardless, I walked up stairs to my room and opened a door to see a MASSIVE package on my bed. I gleefully cussed and opened it like it was Christmas day and you knew it was a new car (that was on your bed ordered from Hong Kong...stay with me).
First Impressions:
The Famas SV is all sleek black, which was cool but I bought it so I could feel like a member of Fox Gound and would finally kick solid snakes *** (Ha, like that would ever happen.) I picked it up, and for my first AEG it was heavy, like you would do exercises with a 5-pound weight and moved up to a 20. I shouldered it and looked down the sights, and felt like I should shoot the crap out of paper targets in my garage. I sorted through all the items, and started charging my battery, reading the directions, and loading the clips. After the first shock of being 17 and the only one at my school to have an airsoft gun (actually 2 now, and I have no clue if I am unique on this assumption or not), I realized that the rumors were true, it squeaks enough that you will think of retro days watching the chipmunks.
First Shooting:
Now, I heard the statistics that it shoots about 1000 BBs a minute, and I even did that math that it shoots about 17 a second, but this has no relevance until you actually spray 1 full magazine into a target. Let me just say this gun shoots FAST. Fast is a bad word, in the words of space balls "Ludicrous Speed" is more fitting. This gun stock with a standard 8.4v 1300mah battery makes you think the gun does speed. My first problem though was that I was stupid and didn't know how to align the sights. If you don't know, you can raise and lower the eyepiece you look through by just adding pressure up or down. After zeroing on the sights, I had a nice quarter grouping at 18 feet with 20 shoots (easy to do better, but I am pretty new at all of this). Longer tests would be good, but I have yet to take it out of my house.
Little Extra Info:
Little things, like on the magwell of the gun it says Famas 5.56F1 SP. I don't know a lot about the RS history, except the SV is the G3 and normally takes m-16 clips. There is a button behind the fire selector that acts to decompress the spring after full autoing.
What’s next?:
Well, I am ordering Infinity SV railed 4.3 soon with my friend’s mp5-sd6 so we can do some training out in Damascus Oregon. I am also in the process of painting the whole gun, camo style green for the main body and black for the secondary accessories. I recommend if you decide to paint your gun that is plastic (metal is not good to paint on) that you put tape over any part you don't want primer spray paint in, like bb feed tube and magazine, and take that off when you are done priming. If you guys are interested I can post pictures of how it comes out (it looks a lot like Solid Fox's Famas that he posted on the Famas registry, except a slightly brighter green and a crapier paint job so far).
Final Thoughts:
I would have to say the Famas SV is by far the best gun I have handled (out of 2, a springer and an AEG). It may not have a lot of parts, and its 10 years old, but it still sells and it still does what it does best, **** BBs. If you haven’t seen a Famas empty a standard clip out in 5 seconds, you are missing out. Final remembrance. Y&P BADDDDD TM GOOOOOD. Thank you and sorry for the spelling errors, the first day of summer and you ALWAYS gets dumber.
Update:
After firing an mp5-sd6 with a mini battery, you can tell there is a difference in RoF, but it is only marginal. Of course if you give the other guy a Springer then you will notice quite an advantage, but the RoF is only slightly a bonus. If you get one, buy a tight bore barrel because on mine during a skirmish it was acting like a shot gun, missing my target 30 ft away by about an inch or 2. I just felt like I was getting pinned down a lot more often then my adversary with the mp5. O, and I have to re-paint it after I played MGS again...THE DAMN GUYS HAVE GRAY GUNS, GRAY GUNS. I might just try to snow camo it, because snow camo always looks cool. If I still had a choice, would I get this gun again? Nah, I would have gotten 2 WA berretta and tried to do Chow yun Fat. Would I recommend this gun still, yes and no. You can increase the power by installing a tight bore barrel and a low pdi spring or a m110 I believe, but other then that it’s no good.
