First Impressions

I received this gun about 4 months ago so I have had a lot of experience with it. I knew that it would come around 2:00 so I sat there, waiting, and waiting, and waiting. My friend was there for “emotional support.” When the joyous moment arrived I rushed down to the end of the street and grabbed the box from the UPS guy in brown short shorts. I tore open the box and there she was, my… precious. When I picked it up I was genuinely surprised by the weight and solid feel of the gun. I could hit this gun on a rock and it would not break (not like you should ;) ) The gun is 11 pounds without the battery. The RIS added a lot of weight to the already heavy gun. I spent some time removing the ugly orange tip and installing the metal black one. There was no way of telling that the gun was a replica from looking at it. Out of all the AEG’s I’ve held, this has been the most solid and realistic.

Looks

This is a truly beautiful gun to look at. The flash hider, outer barrel, front sight, sling mounts, RIS, body, carrying handle, charging handle selector switch, but plate, and trigger are all metal. It’s made of high quality aluminum. Pretty much the only thing that isn’t metal are the fiberglass pistol grip and stock. There are no discoloring or scratches on the metal at all.

And then there is the trademarks. These are the most realistic looking trademarks that I have seen. On the outside of the magazine well it has the Armalite ® logo with the inscription ArmaLite®, CARBINE 5.56 MM., M15A4, SER.009590. Each gun has it’s own serial number. Near the selector switch it has the inscription ArmaLite, Inc., GENESEO, IL, U.S.A. It has the same inscription on the opposite side on the outside of the magazine well.

The authentic ArmaLite trademarks

This is the closest that you can get to a M4 in an airsoft gun. From looking at it and feeling it, you can’t tell the difference.

The one cosmetic thing that isn’t well made is the hop up cover. It is a thin cover on a spring that has a separate magnet holding it up. And under this is a flimsy cover, covering the exposed gear box. But it is not a noticeable difference.

The ugly hop-up cover

Overall this gun is a beautiful piece.

Performance

This gun performs admirably. It has a higher ROF, FPS, and a tighter inner barrel than stock most Mauri’s. Its FPS is 320-350 due to its m100 equivalent spring. It is easy to hit a can at 50-60 feet away and make a good sized dent in it.

Most people say that the M15/M4 is a CQB weapon. This is false. It is a mid-range weapon that is ideal for woodland and CQB battles alike.

I have never had any bb’s jam or any misfeeds. The ROF stays steady and smooth.

This is one of the loudest guns that I have heard. Unlike the TM’s that I have heard which have the steady rhythmic thumping sound, this has a loud popping noise. It can be very intimidating at times.

The magazine has never failed me at any time (except for those pesky times you run out of ammo ;) ). The gun automatically comes with a 300 round high cap magazine. The magazine doesn’t always fit like people would like it too. Some people have complained that the mag well was too small and it was hard to get the magazine in. But mine was too large and every once and awhile the mag would drop down a bit and dry fire. I fixed this by wrapping a layer of electrical tape around the top of the magazine.

I am disappointed with the hop up on the M15. It has a wheel that you turn that lowers the hop. This knob can easily be loosened by the rattle of firing. I have to adjust it after every other game at least. Thankfully, it’s not hard to adjust. It can also be a bit touchy.

Overall, this gun can outperform most stock guns on the field. It is durable enough to roll around on hard ground with it, without any fear of repercussions.

Upgradeability and Accessorizing

This gun has an RIS, so accessorizing is not a problem. You can put flashlights, lasers, M203’s, vertical grips, battery cases, scopes, silencers, slings, etc., etc. The Colt family has more upgrades and accessories than any other gun that I’ve seen. The gun comes pre upgraded by Classic Army already so you can only get better from there. You can get a 400 fps spring without replacing any other parts. This saves a lot of time, energy, and most important of all, money.

What you would get this gun for

THIS GUN IS NOT STRICTLY A CQB GUN! This is a common misconception about the M15/M4. It may appear that it is a short gun, it’s not THAT short. This gun performs perfectly well in the woods. Other guns such as the P90 or SIG 552 are CQB guns. This is a type of midway gun. The best of both worlds. I would suggest the M15 for assault. It’s too loud and heavy for recon, and too short for sniping. The loudness can be very intimidating to the opposition.

The size of the wielder has nothing to do with it. It’s one of the funniest things to see a tall fat guy with a P90, and a 5 foot kid with a sniper. A person with a small frame, or a person with a large build can use this gun equally the same.

Pro’s and Con’s

Here’s the review in a nutshell

Pros
+Full metal
+High Cap magazine
+Internally upgraded
+Can hold a 10 cell battery
+Authentic markings
+RIS
+A little better motor than the eg1000
+ Very solid
+Easy to install / remove battery
+High upgradeability
+Removable carrying handle
+2 removable RIS covers

+/- If you like loud guns, than good. If not, than bad

Cons
-Need 4 different tools to take apart
-Touchy hop up
-Weak hop up cover
-Non functioning charging handle
-Loose / or tight mag well

Conclusion

Overall this is a superior gun. It’s well worth it’s $380-$400 price tag. You can get the version without the RIS for about $100 cheaper. The metal body, RIS, high-cap magazine, and upgraded internals are a huge time and money saver in the long run.

Classic Army has had a bad reputation with their old M4’s and M16’s but they have more than redeemed themselves with this gun. The M15 take a bit more maintenance than a Tokyo Marui. Such as cleaning, tightening, and adjusting.

I would definitely recommend checking the Classic Army M15a4 out.
